Events at the Ranch
Cal Poly Day & Al Smith Day
Cal
Poly Day is
Sunday, Sept. 26. We invite you to our annual train rides, barbecue and choice of other activities put on by the railroad and ranch. Those attending will be brought up to date on what has been taking place at Swanton by both the railroad and the ranch. The annual event is held at the beautiful Swanton Pacific Ranch in Davenport, CA. For more information see:
Cal Poly Day Invitation. The Railroad
Society takes care of registration for this event.
Al Smith Day is Sunday on the second weekend of April.
These two yearly events are used to showcase activities at the Ranch, and include barbeque, train rides and roping demonstrations. The Cal Poly Logging Team often joins in the fun with axe throwing and cross-cut demonstrations. Swanton equipment as well as t-shirts, hats, etc are also on display. Please plan on joining us this year.
Apples, Apples, Apples…
Spotlight on Apples
U-Pick Apples
Apple picking season began Thursday Aug 19th. Hours of operation are 9am - 5pm, Thurs - Monday. Apples are selling for $1.75/lb.
Yielding five tons of apples per year, our 2-acre orchard offers multiple varieties of apples. Although varietals are limited to what's on hand, the 12 different varieties ripen in stages throughout the fall months which allows for an extended picking window. The apple orchard is certified and inspected annually by the California Certified Organic Farmers (CCOF). In addition to U-Pick harvesting, students and interns hand-pick apples throughout the season for local wholesale.
