Listed below are the main facilities that are used for Ranch management,
student housing and event purposes. Reservations can be made
by contacting the Ranch.
Green House
The Green House contains the Ranch administrative offices, and is
the first stop for most visitors. The Green House also contains the
kitchen/dining room facilities for interns staying at the Ranch. |
Barn
The barn was built in 1874. It is enclosed with wood siding and has a corrugated
iron roof. Much of the structure was constructed initially with pegs rather
than nails. Barn reinforcements were undertaken by Cal Poly since managing
the property. Remodeling has preserved whatever is in good condition and replicates
the initial construction design and materials to the extent practical. Much
of the wood used was milled from the Ranch's own timber. |
Bunk House
The Bunk House is used primarily as
intern housing. It currently can accommodate 10 students and
consists of 7 separate rooms and 4 bathrooms. |
 Red House
The Red House contains two meeting rooms that can be
opened into one large room. There are five bedrooms, two bathrooms
and a kitchen equipped with cooking utensils and a refrigerator. |
 Al Smith House
The Al Smith House is located on the east side of Swanton Road, just
north of the CDF fire station. Built for Al Smith, it is a 2 bedroom/2
bath house with two stone fireplaces and pleasant views overlooking
the ocean from the living room. There is a separate training facility
which can be used as a meeting room. A water monitoring lab is also
located here. |
 Staub House
This house consists of a living
area upstairs for resident graduate students, and a kitchen which serves
the yurts on the lower level. It is named after one of
the previous settlers.
|
 Yurts
The yurts, located in front of the Staub house, provide accommodation
for up to 40 people on field trips. The yurts were installed in 1999. |
Cheese House
This
building is listed in the County Register of Historic Buildings and
had wall and roof repairs done in 1998. No current use is made of the
structure but it is hoped to be used for a roadside stand for Ranch
produce in the future. |
