Ranch Operations

livestockSwanton Pacific Ranch is a working ranch with three distinct operations; FSC certified selective forestry, natural grass-fed beef and certified organic crops. Located on 3200 acres, the exceptional diversity of this property, and the greater Scotts Creek watershed, provide remarkable conditions for agriculture production which support several unique educational programs and research opportunities based on site.

Agriculture production is carried out by dedicated resident staff, student interns and university professors working to train emerging professionals to implement best management practices (BMPs), research environmental outcomes of BMPs and collaborate with industry and agency professionals to disseminate findings, increase application of these management techniques and support regional economies of the central coast through sustainable food and resource production. Be sure to look for our seasonally available products.

forest Forestry activities are designed to maintain stringent water quality, biological diversity, natural systems sustainability while producing a marketable, renewable resource. Grass-fed natural beef production is supported by a resident cow-calf herd and stocker cattle which are managed to maintain water quality, soil quality and diversity of perennial grasses. Organic crops include our CCOF "u-pick" apple orchard and lands leased to Jacob's Farm del Cabo. Each of these operations provides opportunities for hands-on student learning, research and professional experience. More in depth reviews of these operations are discussed on the navigational links to the left.
